Description:
JDK 5.0 installation failes on Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition in the following scenario:
(1) Install JDK 5.0 using the online multilanguage installation file.
(2) Due to unknow reason, the online installation program complains that ‘Due to network error, some files couldn’t be installed.’
(3) The installation program finishes.
(4) At this point, the installed JDK 5.0 can’t be uninstalled. Saying that ‘Some DLL is missing which is required for unsinstallation.’, uninstaller does not work.
(5) Trying to install JDK 5.0 using offline multilanguage installation file does not solve the problem because the installer complains about ‘already installed JDK exists.’
What the JDK 5.0 installer should have is a ‘force-installation’ option which forces a JDK 5.0 installation regardless of existing JDK.
Justification:
There are some people who are grumbling over lack of the ‘force-installation’ option at forum of java.sun.com. Without the force option, there are no way to install JDK in my situation than to format Windows OS.
Workaround:
No workaround.
Severity:
Can not make any progress until this bug is resolved.
